Community Guidelines

Last updated: May 2026

Mutually exists for one reason: to help real creators find real collaborators, grow real audiences, and build meaningful careers together. These Community Guidelines define the standards that make that possible. They apply to everyone — from a creator with 200 followers to one with 2 million. Violating these guidelines may result in content removal, feature restrictions, account suspension, or permanent ban, depending on severity.

1. Authentic Identity

Mutually is built on trust. Your identity on the platform must be genuine.

  • Use your real creator identity — the name, brand, and content style you actually represent
  • Do not impersonate other creators, public figures, brands, or Mutually staff
  • Do not create multiple accounts to evade a ban or inflate your own metrics
  • Profile photos and bios must accurately represent you and your content

2. No Bots. No Automation. No Fake Engagement.

This is our most important rule. Mutually's value comes entirely from the authenticity of its community. Any form of artificial activity destroys that.

  • Do not use bots, scripts, or automation tools to send messages, submit collaboration requests, or interact with profiles
  • Do not purchase, sell, or exchange followers, likes, comments, views, or any other engagement metric
  • Do not participate in follow-for-follow loops, like-for-like pods, or coordinated inauthentic engagement schemes
  • Do not use third-party services that promise "guaranteed" growth through non-organic means
  • Do not operate or promote services that sell fake engagement to other creators

We use automated detection systems and manual review to identify inauthentic behaviour. Accounts found to be using bots or fake engagement will be permanently banned without appeal.

3. No Spam

Spam degrades the experience for everyone. You may not:

  • Send unsolicited bulk collaboration requests to creators you have no genuine interest in working with
  • Send repeated identical messages or copy-paste templates to multiple users
  • Use Mutually's messaging features primarily to promote external services, products, or affiliate links
  • Post repetitive, low-quality, or irrelevant content designed to game discovery algorithms
  • Create or distribute referral or pyramid schemes through the platform

4. Respectful Collaboration

Mutually connects creators to build each other up. Treat every creator on the platform with professionalism and respect.

  • Do not harass, threaten, bully, or target other creators with abusive messages
  • Do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age
  • Disagreements in collaborations must be handled constructively; do not use the platform to publicly shame or defame partners
  • Honour the terms you agree to in collaboration proposals — ghosting or abandoning agreed campaigns without notice harms trust and may result in account restrictions

5. Content Standards

Content you share on your Mutually profile, in collaboration proposals, or in messages must comply with the following standards.

Not allowed:

  • Sexually explicit or adult content of any kind — Mutually is accessible to users as young as 13
  • Graphic violence or content that glorifies self-harm
  • Content that promotes, facilitates, or glorifies illegal activity
  • Hate speech targeting individuals or groups based on protected characteristics
  • Misinformation that could cause real-world harm (e.g. health misinformation, election interference)
  • Content that violates the intellectual property rights of others — including music, images, and video

Allowed with care:

  • Mature themes (e.g. mental health, social commentary) handled responsibly and without graphic depictions
  • Promotional content, clearly disclosed as such
  • Debate and differing opinions, expressed respectfully and without targeting individuals

6. Privacy and Data

  • Do not share another person's private information (address, phone number, financial details) without their explicit consent — this includes "doxxing"
  • Do not record, screenshot, or share private messages from other creators without permission
  • Do not use data you obtain through Mutually to contact users outside the platform for unsolicited outreach
  • Respect the privacy of minors — do not post or share content that identifies or targets users you know to be under 18

7. Collaboration Integrity

Great collaborations require honesty and follow-through from both sides.

  • Accurately represent your audience size, engagement rate, and niche when setting up your profile — we audit this data
  • Deliver on collaboration commitments you agree to through the platform
  • Disclose paid partnerships and sponsored content in compliance with applicable advertising standards (e.g. Canada's Competition Bureau guidelines)
  • Do not fabricate collaboration results, screenshots, or testimonials

8. Age Appropriate Use

Mutually is for users aged 13 and older. Creators who produce content intended for adults (e.g. alcohol brands, mature lifestyle content) must not target minor users in their collaboration proposals. If you are a minor, you must have parental consent to use Mutually and are subject to additional content restrictions.

9. Enforcement

We enforce these guidelines through a combination of automated systems and human review. Consequences scale with severity and history:

  • First-time minor violations: content removal and a warning
  • Repeated or moderate violations: temporary feature restrictions or account suspension
  • Severe violations (bots, doxxing, harassment campaigns, illegal content): immediate permanent ban
  • Illegal activity will be reported to relevant law enforcement authorities

You may appeal enforcement decisions by emailing support@mutually.ca within 14 days of the action. Include your username and a clear explanation. We review all appeals within 7 business days.

10. Reporting Violations

If you see content or behaviour that violates these guidelines, please report it:

  • Use the in-app "Report" button on any profile, post, or message
  • Email us at support@mutually.ca for urgent or complex issues

We review all reports. False or bad-faith reports are themselves a violation of these guidelines.

11. Changes to These Guidelines

We update these guidelines as the platform evolves. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification. Continued use of Mutually after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised guidelines.
